Baptism is an important step in a person’s journey of faith. At Canvas, we recommend waiting until a child is at least 10 years old. Parents can consider the following questions to discern readiness:
- Has your child personally chosen to make Jesus the Lord of their life?
- Can your child clearly explain what baptism is and why they want to do it?
A child should show a genuine desire to follow Jesus, with evidence of spiritual interest—such as prayer, reading the Bible, or seeking to grow in their faith. Baptism is a public declaration of a personal commitment to follow Jesus, so it’s important that they understand and embrace this step in their journey.
